Company profile

Energy systems, electric mobility and digital infrastructure

KONČAR is a Croatian industrial group whose four operating areas connect power generation, transmission and distribution, urban mobility and digital infrastructure. Its member companies design and manufacture generators, transformers, switchgear, trams, trains, power electronics and control software, then combine those building blocks in complete plants and transport systems. The result is an unusual portfolio that reaches from a hydro generator or 420 kV substation to a battery train and the software supervising a city's services.

Energy systems

From generators and solar plants to 420 kV substations

KONČAR designs, builds, revitalises and services power plants, manufacturing generators, excitation and control systems, transformers and switchgear inside the group. Donja Dubrava pairs 23,114 panels and 44 inverters with PROZA NET control; the Ernestinovo and Žerjavinec substations show the same model at 400 kV grid scale.

Electric mobility

Trams, trains and charging infrastructure are developed together

The rail portfolio spans low-floor trams, EMUs, DMUs, battery multiple units and the traction, signalling and charging systems around them. Croatia's first domestically produced battery train entered service in 2025: a 42-metre vehicle reaching 120 km/h, with an optimal range near 100 km and a 27-minute charge from KONČAR's 1 MW station.

Digital layer

PROZA software turns equipment into managed infrastructure

PROZA Station supervises power and gas plants; PowerCIM connects grid-management systems; MARS meters and analyses energy, water and city services. In Karlovac, MARS became a common layer for parking, school energy use, air quality, weather, water meters, waste containers and thermal substations.

Group architecture

Independent specialists combine around complex assignments

KONČAR reports 16 subsidiaries and one associate, a transformer-tank venture with Siemens Energy. Members retain their own management while contributing products to shared solutions; the group says its products, services and solutions are installed in 140 countries worldwide. The lineage began with Elektra in 1921. D&ST and Dalekovod are separately listed issuers in this ranking, so their standalone activities remain in their own profiles.

Current 2026 update

What is changing at Koncar Group in 2026?

KONČAR is changing on three fronts at once: a financed factory-and-equipment programme is intended to expand critical-power capacity; hydropower and battery-rail contracts show the products being delivered; and specialist companies are being recombined inside the group.

The change in one sentence

Industrial capacity, system delivery and legal integration now move in parallel.

The financing filing defines a physical investment project but not its sites or commissioning schedule. The product contracts show generators, trains and charging infrastructure rather than abstract order percentages. The reorganisation has both completed and still-to-be-carried-out legal steps, with no quantified operating benefit yet disclosed.

Four lenses on 2026

The same four-quadrant format used in the Company profile.

01 · The manufacturing cycle

A EUR 370 million project is aimed at factories, equipment and critical-power capacity

KONČAR signed EUR 320 million of project lending with EBRD, IFC, PBZ and ZABA and will add EUR 50 million of its own funds, financing a EUR 370 million investment project. The filing limits the disclosed scope to expanding production facilities, purchasing equipment and strengthening manufacturing capacity for critical-power equipment and infrastructure. This project is part of a planned EUR 550 million three-year KONČAR cycle; including power-transformer expansion with Siemens Energy, planned investment exceeds EUR 800 million. Named sites, production lines, capacity increments and commissioning dates are not disclosed.

  • Current signalEUR 320m lending + EUR 50m own funds · sites and timing undisclosed
  • Why it mattersThe programme is intended to add physical industrial capacity, but financing signed and investment delivered remain different milestones.

02 · The system products

Hydropower machines and battery trains show two ends of the portfolio

For the Orlík hydropower plant, KONČAR Inc. signed a EUR 46.9 million contract for two 110 MVA generators, two 110 MVA motor-generators and a monitoring system, covering design, manufacture, supply, installation supervision and commissioning from 2026 through 2033. In northern Croatia, HŽ Passenger Transport and KONČAR - Electric Vehicles signed the train and charging-station agreement within a EUR 53.6 million project for six battery electric multiple units and a Kotoriba hybrid charging station combining photovoltaics with storage. The trains are scheduled for service in 2028 and early 2029; the source does not isolate KONČAR revenue or grant allocation from the total project value.

  • Current signalOrlík: 2 generators + 2 motor-generators at 110 MVA · 6 BEMUs plus hybrid charging
  • Why it mattersThe group sells both heavy power equipment and integrated mobility-energy systems, with values and delivery responsibilities bounded to each source.

  • Battery-train project KONČAR Group · 2026-07-16

03 · The legal architecture

Digital and engineering activities are moving into fewer legal entities

On 1 July, part of KONČAR - Electronics and Informatics was transferred to KONČAR - Helb, while KREANCA Systems and Prosperus Growth NEOS were merged into KONČAR - Digital. A separate 3 August notice says court decisions issued on 31 July provide that the remaining Electronics and Informatics company will be merged into parent KONČAR Inc.; it uses future wording and does not state that this residual merger was already completed. No headcount, product, cost or customer effects are quantified.

  • Current signalJuly 1 changes completed · residual E&I merger authorised for implementation
  • Why it mattersThe legal map is becoming simpler, but operational integration and its benefits remain to be demonstrated.

04 · What to watch

Three questions for the next disclosures

Three questions track conversion from financing and contracts into commissioned capacity and integrated operations.

  • Capacity buildWhich facilities, production lines and equipment are funded first, and when do they enter service?
  • System deliveryDo Orlík machines, battery trains and the Kotoriba hybrid charging station reach their disclosed milestones, and is the project-value allocation clarified?
  • Operating integrationWhen is the residual E&I merger completed, and what product, customer, headcount or cost changes follow the legal restructuring?
