Company profile

From legal publishing to connected professional workflows

Karnov Group turns legal publishing and specialist commentary into subscription platforms and workflow tools used by more than 400,000 users. Its national businesses—Karnov in Denmark, Norstedts Juridik in Sweden, Aranzadi LA LEY in Spain, Jusnet in Portugal and Lamy Liaisons in France—combine local legal information with search, compliance, document and AI workflows. DIBkunnskap extends the group into Norwegian tax and accounting workflows. More than 7,000 experts support the group, which reports offices in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France, Spain and Portugal.

Platforms and geography

Local legal systems sit inside a six-country group

Karnov's products are organised around local jurisdictions and professional practice. Karnov serves Denmark, Norstedts Juridik Sweden, Aranzadi LA LEY Spain, Lamy Liaisons France and Jusnet Portugal; DIBkunnskap supplies Norwegian tax and accounting workflows, while BELLA supports bankruptcy-estate work in Denmark. The issuer reports offices in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France, Spain and Portugal and offers research, learning, news, templates, valuation and workflow services.

Editorial and practitioner workflows

Expert interpretation continues into document review

In Region North, Karnov says its platforms combine public sources with proprietary commentary from more than 1,500 Nordic experts; groupwide, it reports more than 7,000 authors and specialists. This knowledge also enters document workflows. DIB's dflow can place reviewers in a fixed sequence, let them edit or approve documents and send the approved version onward for signature. The combination joins maintained interpretation with an accountable review path.

AI and digital workflows

Four local products connect source, reasoning and delivery

Allegra Flow, JUNO Flow, KAILA Flow and LamyLia Connect span assignment analysis, planning, research and document production. Matter files, work plans, sources and drafts remain connected; Karnov calls the provenance chain the Validity Chain. Page 29 of the 2025 annual report profiles Advokatbyrån Kaiding: in an expropriation matter, a lawyer asked JUNO AI to criticise his submission and identify weaknesses in his reasoning about an atypical compensation claim. By August, Karnov said the workflow product had been sold to a number of customers in all markets, but disclosed no customer count, usage or product-revenue figure.

Subscriptions, history and strategy

Around 80% of products and services are subscription based

Karnov says around 80% of its products and services are subscription based and paid annually in advance, providing what it calls resilient and visible revenues. The business also includes transaction-based education, books and print sold both with and without subscriptions, and workflow tools sold on subscription and transaction bases. This model sits on a publishing history from a Danish case-law periodical in 1867 to annotated law collections, Karnov Online in 2001 and later workflow acquisitions. Strategy emphasises content quality, user experience and workflow efficiency, with digitalisation and shared group capabilities as enablers.

The change in one sentence

The AI launch is becoming a commercial layer on national legal subscriptions.

Karnov now reports initial workflow customers and regional AI upgrades while its board continues to evaluate the group's future strategic path without committing to a transaction.

Four lenses on 2026

The same four-quadrant format used in the Company profile.

01 · First customers

The workflow launch moves beyond the announcement

Karnov launched Allegra Flow, JUNO Flow, KAILA Flow and LamyLia Connect at the end of June, extending legal research into assignment planning, analysis and document production. Its Q2 report says a number of customers in all markets had acquired the workflow product during the summer. Karnov provides no customer count, active-user, conversion, usage or product-revenue figure.

  • Current signalFour local products · customers in all markets · no adoption KPI
  • Why it mattersThe evidence has moved from product availability to initial commercial uptake, but it does not yet prove scale or sustained use.

02 · Subscription upgrades

National legal libraries become the route to AI adoption

In Region North, customers continued buying Karnov's AI package and Online Legal growth was 11%; Karnov says satisfaction and retention remained high and unchanged. Karnov attributes Region South's 1.6% Online Legal growth mainly to customer uplifts to new AI products; it does not disclose standalone AI revenue or a quantitative breakdown of that growth. France had weak legal-training sales.

  • Current signalNorth Online Legal +11% · South +1.6% · no standalone AI revenue
  • Why it mattersKarnov can distribute AI through existing national subscriptions, but pricing, renewals, content mix and offline weakness still affect the reported result.

03 · Strategic review

The board keeps every strategic option open

After acknowledging recent take-private speculation, Karnov said its board continues to evaluate all options to maximise shareholder value. Goldman Sachs Bank Europe SE is acting as financial adviser. The report lists a sale of the company, divestitures, strategic partnerships or business combinations, other transactions, continued execution of the operating plan and capital allocation as examples. Karnov says no outcome is assured and no timeline has been established.

  • Current signalGoldman Sachs Bank Europe SE advising · sale is one example · no assurance or timetable
  • Why it mattersA change in ownership, portfolio or capital allocation is now an explicit possibility, but the filing is not a transaction announcement.

04 · What to watch

Three questions for the next disclosures

The next disclosures should separate workflow adoption, subscription-upgrade economics and any strategic-review outcome from broad issuer language.

  • Workflow scaleDoes Karnov disclose customer counts, active use, conversion, renewal or revenue for the four workflow products?
  • AI upgrade economicsCan Karnov isolate AI-package contribution while retention stays high and French offline training remains weak?
  • Board reviewDoes the board announce a defined option, counterparty, timetable or completion, rather than another statement that all alternatives remain open?
